Your Job & Joy
The only difference between the words “job” and “joy” is one letter. But the actual gap between “job” and “joy” for many people can be as different as night and day.
It’s fair to say that most people want to find joy in their jobs. However, the pressure that comes from the constant threat of recession, the seemingly never-ending pandemic issues, working remote then returning to the office, toxic workplaces, etc… can make it hard to find that elusive elation in the workplace.
HR leaders around the globe are working hard to bring wellness to the workplace, but it is your responsibility too.
Here are the 3 C’s of things you can do to bring more joy to your job:
Choose your attitude – If you start your day saying, “today is going to suck,” guess what? It will. Instead, make it a habit to ask yourself at the beginning of every day, “How can I bring value today?” That slight shift will change your way of being and will change how others interact with you.
Contribute to a wider variety of projects – Sometimes we are burned out doing the same thing repeatedly. Offer to take on a project that will push you out of your comfort zone and help you learn something new. This is where growth happens. You might also build new relationships with co-workers which creates connection. Connection with others makes people feel good.
Can the gossip – Sometimes we need to vent but talking negatively about your co-workers or your company is only going to breed more discontent. Instead, vent more constructively by changing your perspective in some way. Get outside, move your body, and/or do some mindful breathing. This week’s Express Desk Stretch will help you do just that.
