Small Changes, Big Results
Happy New Year! I’m glad you are here. What is 2023 going to bring for you this year?
The beginning of the year often comes with resolutions and desires to take on or break certain habits. In his book, Atomic Habits, James Clear says "every action we take casts a vote for the type of person you want to be.”
What type of person do you want to be in 2023? Do you want to be a healthy person, a focused person, a productive person, a less stressed person at work, etc…? If so, start here.
The tagline of the book is Tiny Changes, Remarkable Results. Most people don’t achieve their goals because they try to do too much too fast. This results in discouragement, frustration, and burnout. Many quit at this point. Therefore, it’s best to start small.
Clear says, “Improving by 1% per day isn’t particularly notable – sometimes it isn’t even noticeable – but it can be far more meaningful, especially in the long run. The difference a tiny improvement can make over time is astounding.”
Here’s how the math works out: Start your new habit for 1 minute on day one and increase it by 1% per day. By the end of the year, you will be doing it 37 minutes/day. That small change will lead to a big result!
