Say “No” to Stress on the Job

It seems like everywhere we turn, we are either reading about or hearing today’s worker is feeling more stressed out than ever on the job. I thought this week was going to be light and easy for me as I did not have a ton of meetings on my calendar. Nevertheless, various stressful situations managed to populate my days and I am only half-way through the week.

According to the American Institute on Stress:

  • 94% of workers reported feeling stress at work

  • 57% of workers feel paralyzed by stress

  • 63% of US workers considered quitting their jobs because of stress

Stress is a real problem in the workplace and yoga can improve that.  Here’s how:

  • The breathing techniques used in yoga help manage stress, preventing burnout and fatigue, which can lead to increased job satisfaction and sustained productivity.

  • Yoga cultivates a sense of balance, both physically and mentally.  That sense of balance encourages time management and prioritization, preventing work-related overwhelm.

  • The increased self-awareness fostered by yoga allows individuals to better understand their limits and boundaries, aiding in efficient task delegation and collaboration.

This week’s mini yoga flow is centered on equanimity poses; otherwise known as balancing poses. Equanimity means to bring calm to the chaos. When we feel stressed, things can feel chaotic. These equanimity/balancing poses are designed to help you minimize that feeling so you can find more balance in your day.  Check it out here.

Inquiry question:  What triggers your stress?  How can you proactively take steps to minimize it?
