Be More Creative on the Job
Henri Matisse, a famous French artist from 1869-1954 once said, “Don’t wait for inspiration. It comes while working.” This quote reminds me that most of us don’t have an endless supply of inspiration and creativity. Some of us may even feel that we have zero creativity. I certainly feel like that sometimes. But when I quiet my mind, I am amazed at the ideas that come out of it. In this fast-changing world, creativity is required to move people, families, communities, careers, and businesses forward.
In my fourth and final week during Yoga Awareness Month, I want to share how the practice of yoga can help you quiet your mind while moving your body which will help you be more creative on the job and in life too. Here’s how:
As has been addressed in earlier posts, yoga promotes relaxation and reduces stress, which can unlock creative thinking by calming the mind and reducing mental clutter.
The practice of mindfulness during yoga sessions also trains individuals to be more present and attentive, fostering a deeper connection to their inner thoughts and ideas.
A regular yoga practice of just a couple times a week improves mental flexibility which helps individuals break free of rigid thought patterns.
The emphasis on breath control enhances oxygen flow to the brain, increasing mental clarity and focus. This heightened cognitive function can stimulate innovative thinking and problem-solving.
The mind-body connection fostered by yoga promotes self-awareness and emotional intelligence, enabling individuals to better understand their own thoughts and emotions. This self-awareness can provide valuable insights and inspiration for creative endeavors.
Overall, yoga can create just the fertile ground needed for a creative and innovative mindset.
I have taken a “creative twist” on the yoga flow for this week. I am taking a lot of the poses I have shared with you over the last few weeks and I will show you how you can do them in a chair. Get your creative juices flowing by practicing some chair yoga with this video.
Inquiry Question: What can you do to make yoga a more regular part of your week?
I hope you are finding these blog posts and the included videos to be meaningful. If so, please share with your family, friends, and colleagues.
Kindly,
Anita
